We use elongated, sweeping brushstrokes to capture the flower’s upward reach, employing “wet-on-wet” washes to create soft vertical streaks of color—ranging from buttery browns to roasted orange. The Bougainvillea brings a sun-drenched, tropical energy. Often called the “Paper Flower” due to its delicate, parchment-like texture, this plant is a marvel of vibrant illusion—its “petals” are actually colorful bracts that protect tiny, star-shaped white flowers at their center. Our watercolor interpretation utilizes a “wet-on-dry” layering technique to capture this unique translucency. Bold sweeps of electric magenta are layered until they achieve a luminous effect.
